Volunteer
Interval House is proud of our volunteer program. Without it, we could not do the work we do. All volunteers must undergo a background check and successfully complete the interview process as well as appropriate training.
Direct Service volunteers assist in Crisis and Hotline counseling; facilitate support groups; work with the children’s program; and help in the safety and healing process of those women and children who come to Interval House. Each direct service volunteer must complete a thorough four-day training with the Connecticut Coalition against Domestic Violence, and one day orientation session at Interval House. Volunteers that complete that week-long program will then be certified as a Connecticut State Battered Women’s Counselor.
Speakers Bureau Training: Interval House offers speakers training sessions for volunteers who wish to help with community outreach and education. After successfully completing this four-hour training session, volunteers are able to speak about domestic violence, Interval House and its history at selected public events and presentations. This program is under the direction of the Community Educator and all speaking engagements must be approved by him/her. This training is offered twice a year, or as needed.
Third-Party Events: A third-party fundraising event is any activity by a non-affiliated group or individual where Interval House has no fiduciary responsibility, and little or no staff involvement. If you have an idea or plan for an event that will benefit Interval House please contact the Development Director.
Committee participation: Put your particular talent or interest to work at Interval House by serving on a committee such as Development, Annual Gala.
Day of Giving: Volunteers can organize groups to spend a day at the shelter providing hands-on labor such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, landscaping, and general maintenance and upkeep of the facility. For more information or ways to help, please call the Assistant Director.
